Recommended supplies for a small first aid kit for cyclists:

  • 2 - Loris antiseptic towelettes w/Betadine 
  • 3 - Benzalkonium Chloride Antiseptic Towelette
  • 1 - Povidone-Iodine (BETADINE) Ointment 1g
  • 2 - AfterBite towelettes
  • 1 - Elastoplast Antibacterial Cleansing Tissue
  • 3 - Alcohol Prep Pads
  • 1 - Telfa non-adherent pad - 4” x 3”
  • 1 - Stretch Gauze Bandage - 3” x 4.1 yds
  • 1 - Gauze bandage - 2” x 5 yds
  • 1 - Triangular bandage + 2 Safety pins - 40” x 40” x 56”
  • 1 - Roll of 3M plastic tape - 1/2” 
  • 1 - Pair of Nitrile gloves
  • 2 - Sterile blister strips 
  • 2 - Sterile blister oval pads 
  • 2 - Bandaid - 2” x 4”
  • 4 - Bandaid - 1” x 3”
  • 2 - Sterile gauze sponges (2 per pouch) - 4” x 4”

Most of these items can be found at your local Pharmacy, or at Ontario Medical Supply, 1100 Algoma Road, Ottawa. Another alternative source is to buy one of the large medical kits at Costco, usually in the $35 range. They have enough supplies to make 2 or 3 kits, with lots left over. Most of this can fit in a small sandwich size baggie, or you can opt for a dedicated pouch like this one on Amazon

The following items are optional, but you may like to include some or all to fill out your kit.

  • 1 - Leatherman Micra - Scissors + tweezers
  • 2 - Advil 200
  • 4 - Tylenol 325
  • 2 - Claritin or Benadryl
  • 1 - PolySporin 15 g tube
  • 2 - Imodium
  • 1 - Mylar blanket
  • 1 - Hand sanitizer
  • 1 - CPR Face shield
  • Pencil
