1. KNBC Covid-19 news
While restrictions in Ontario are slowly being lifted, we know many of you have been wondering when the KNBC will be able to begin group rides again. Please know that your board is carefully monitoring the situation and that our guidance is coming primarily from the Province of Ontario and our local Public Health Officers. One of our members, Bob C., has been looking at other jurisdictions and shared the following from the Manitoba Cycling Association.
Their return to ride protocol includes the following items:
- Trip leaders will require training on recognizing Covid-19 symptoms and will be required to brief & monitor the group on social/safety practices and carry sanitizer, gloves, etc.
- Limitation on group size (10) and safety protocols for participants (no carpooling, 2m riding distance, etc.)

Once our club gets the green light from Public Health authorities, then we will probably implement similar protocols. Meanwhile cycle safely and keep following Public Health guidelines.
2. Safety Tip from Monna - Be careful on wet roads
When riding on wet roads (especially descending), get in the habit of slightly 'feathering' your brakes. This will dry them; so that they will be effective should you need them.
Be VERY careful NOT to turn suddenly on wet roads, especially on white or yellow road paint. In wet rainy conditions, this can be almost as treacherous as sand and/or gravel. The green 'bike specific' road markings seem to be ok.
