Tour Director news

1. The Rides (Oct. 1 - 7)

Changes in the tour schedule may occur at short notice. Please check the club calendar on the website, as well as your email, prior to heading to a start location. If a ride gets cancelled or changed, you will be notified by email, providing you have registered on it using the “Register” button.

Full details on all rides can be found on the KNBC club calendar of rides and events on the KNBC website. The KNBC calendar, containing the most up to date info on your rides, is located at

Please do not sign up for a ride if you do not intend to respect the speed level at which it is being offered.

Oct 02 L1 - Ashton - 59.5km

Oct 02 L1 & L2/3 Final Final Wednesday Evening Mystery Ride

Oct 05 L2 - Aviation Museum - 49.7 km

Oct 06 L3 - Wheelers - 72 km

Oct 06 L2 - Wheelers - 72 km

Participants in a ride are asked to arrive 10 to 15 minutes before the ride departure time, slightly earlier if you need time to take your bike off your car. It takes time to distribute the directions and sign in for the ride, which is necessary so the tour leader knows who is on the tour. The tour leader will also make some introductory remarks concerning the route and safety tips. Members will introduce themselves, and then you'll be on your way.

Tour leaders are reminded to contact the Tour Director at: if any changes are required to their ride.

New Tour Director needed for 2020 season

It has been a very rewarding 2 years as KNBC Tour Director. Unfortunately, my schedule at work next year, combined with some other personal commitments, will make it too difficult for me to continue as Tour Director for the 2020 cycling season. I am therefore stepping down as Tour Director at the end of this cycling season. This means KNBC will need a new Tour Director. If you think you would like to step up and take on this role, please let me know at

And if you know of anyone who may make a good Tour Director, please take a moment or two to encourage them along. Ideally we would like to have the new Tour Director identified by September. Presently, we have zero volunteers to take on this position. It might be possible to split this position into two sections: An early summer and a late summer tour director.

2. Upcoming vacancies on club executive

We are starting early to fill three anticipated vacancies on our Executive for the next year and are looking for anyone who might be interested in joining the group, without which the Club cannot function. The vacancies are for Tour Director, Public Relations Director, and Secretary. The most critical position is Tour Director. See Peter’s comments above. The outgoing membership director tasks will likely be combined under the treasurer position.

There are four people leaving the executive who have done a great job and have been great colleagues. There are descriptions of the roles & responsibilities in the members’ only section of the website under executive contact info. The link wasn’t working last week, but is fixed now. If you think you might be interested, please contact the President, Geoffrey Gurd either at or at 613 721-7074 and/or contact the individuals currently in these positions.

Just as the club cannot operate without ride leaders, it is the same situation with having a full, supportive and committed executive.

3. Safety tip from Monna - Be careful on wet leafs

Leafs and needles are falling and can be treacherous when wet - especially when turning suddenly or stopping. Look ahead, especially on bike paths, and be aware and anticipate this fall hazard. Stop gradually and turn slowly to avoid losing traction and falling.

5. KNBC Photo Contest

Please continue to send in your photos taken during the 2019 cycling season. We could possibly use them on our new KNBC website.

We would enjoy seeing your pictures from any of the multi day KNBC cycling events, any of the many bike rides or events. We all love to see the smiles of our members.

Email them to:
