CAN-BIKE is designed for cyclists OF ALL LEVELS to increase their knowledge and ability to ride safely and effectively through all forms of traffic infrastructure, both individually and in a group. Participants will gain confidence and competence on both urban and rural roadways. Participants will learn the rules of the road, and what being a vehicle under the Highway Traffic Act actually 'looks like' as a cyclist, and how to recognize and respond to all potential hazardous situations.
The success of the course depends on full and complete attendance and participation. The 'on-road' portions of the course are conducted as a group - with everyone learning and practicing the multiple roles and responsibilities associated with group riding. Attendance for all 3-days is therefore imperative. The course is conducted and tested both in the classroom and on the road.
Participants must be 18 years of age or older, have basic bike riding competency skills, be capable of riding 15km and be moderately comfortable riding in road traffic. Participants must have the following:

Monna-Leigh McElveny was a professional Safety Officer with the Department of National Defence, (Operational health and safety, Ionizing and non-ionizing radiation safety and Laser safety). She is a trained CANBIKE instructor, and sits on the Kanata North Transportation Committee, and the MS Ride Committee for Bike Safety. Monna developed and implemented the "Pedal Play" mobile bike rodeo in Kanata, and was the 2014 recipient of the Bruce Timmermans Award.
