1. Tour Director News

A huge thank you to all the Tour Leaders who came out to the Tour Planning meeting 1 April. All the rides for April-June which were offered at the meeting are now in the Club Calendar. I hope to finish adding the July rides by Monday evening.

Please note: Due to the fickleness of spring weather, all rides in Apr, May (and perhaps June) will be treated with the same RSVP requirements as remote starts. This means you will need to RSVP to the Tour Leader, if you plan to attend.

Full details on all rides can be found on the KNBC Club Calendar of rides and events on the KNBC website. The KNBC Calendar, containing the most up to date info on your rides, is located at

Changes in the tour schedule may occur at short notice, particularly during periods of fickle weather.  Please check the Club Calendar on the website, prior to heading to a start location.  Typically, Bike Shorts Extras will not be sent out for cancellations or short notice ride additions. Instead, cancellations and additions will be reflected on the calendar, as soon as the Tour Director or Assistant Tour Director is notified.

Should you have any questions or require more information, contact the KNBC Tour Director at:

2. The Rides (April 9-15)

New Calendar

Check out the ride calendars on our website, Rides & Events. To assist you in choosing a ride, we’ve given you a number of views to choose from:

Upcoming Rides & Events

Calendar – Weekly

Calendar – Monthly

Calendar – Annual

Calendar – List

Each shows you a different view of the club calendar, so use your favourite. In the Weekly and Monthly calendars, rides are highlighted in Blue while social events like the Open House are Orange. From time to time we have to make changes or add rides on short notice, so we’ll highlight those in Green so you can easily pick them out. Clicking on any ride/event will show you the details. You can scroll through the weeks and months using the arrow buttons at the top right that bracket Today. The Annual view is a really good tool for planning your summer! Enjoy.

June 2, Going to Toronto? Help out a brother/sister club In Toronto

The Toronto Bicycle Network, aka, is looking for experienced cyclist volunteers in the Ride For Heart charity ride on the Don Valley Parkway. You’d be a Ride Ambassador helping to shepherd the masses of cyclists and looking out for problems. As an Ambassador, you’d be riding for free while helping out and experiencing this great event. Check this link on the TBN website for ride details and how to register -

Fun fact, TBN uses the same membership system we do, so check out their site.

4. KNBC Membership System

By now, you should all have had some kind of experience with our new Membership Management system, mostly through our new website, renewals, social events, and Bike Shorts emails. You may be wondering why we moved to this system. Over the next few Bike Shorts we’ll be highlighting a new feature or two that you may come across.

One of the key features is that everything is in one place. Contact information, membership details, payments, web site, events, and ride details are all consolidated within our new system. This saves time, reduces error, and opens up new possibilities.

Online Membership Signup & Renewals

With this one feature we have reduced our admin overhead by over 90% (much appreciated by our volunteer Executive) and managed to enter the new cycling year with a positive cash flow - first time in club history! The club has a lot of up-front expenses like insurance that we need to have in place before the first tire hits the road, so this has been a huge positive for the club. Hopefully you’ve appreciated the ease of the system and are ready to go with the new season. Don’t forget to download and print your membership card. If you’re adventurous, you can use the online card though our mobile app, more on that next week.
