9:30 am start from Centrepointe. Cycle quiet roads to Manotick
for lunch in a restaurant or bring a picnic. You will have the option
to extend the ride.

September 8, 2010: Wednesday Night Mystery Tour
6:00 pm start at Centrepointe. Join us on Wednesday evenings at
Centrepointe for impromptu tours of 90 to 120 minutes followed by socializing
at Marshy's. S1, S2 and S3/S4 speed groups arranged at the start depending on
turnout.
NB. This week's Wednesday Mystery
Tour will begin at 6:00 p.m., not 6:15.
Saturday 11 September 2010:
Portage-du-Fort, 117 km, 141 km, S2/S3
8:30 am S3 start at Richmond Fairgrounds
entrance, or 9:00am S2 or S3 start, at the municipal buildings at the
corner of Kinburn Side Rd & Carp Rd or start at West Carleton Community
Centre . Cycle on CR#1 along the Ottawa River to the bridge/dam at
Portage-du-Fort and then along the Quebec side of the Ottawa River to Norway
Bay for lunch. Return to the Ontario side on the Quyon Ferry and cycle back to
Arnprior through Fitzroy Harbour and Galetta.

inform the tour leader of your intention to cycle, leaving a telephone number
where you can be reached in case of cancellation. If no one calls the tour

12 September 2010: Baxter Conservation Area*, 60 km/75 km, S2
9:30 am start at Centrepointe or
10:00am start at Barrhaven at McDonald's on Strandherd Dr. Cycle through
Manotick and then follow the Rideau River to Kars and on to Baxter Conservation
Area. Swimming and picnic lunch. Possible $2 admission fee for
Conservation Centre.

am start in Richmond. Cycle to Nicholson's Locks and back. Picnic
lunch.

2. Kawartha Rube-Eh? offers a 70km
elite course and a 35km sport course on the weekend of Oct. 2,
starting at the fairgrounds in Fenelon Falls. Both distances are
best suited to mountain bikes, cyclocross bikes or hybrid bikes.

3. Kawartha
Fall Colours Cycling tour: a two-day event based out of Elmhirst's
Resort on Rice Lake just south of Peterborough with 100 km or 50 km rides
featuring rolling hills, scenic views and the beauty of the fall colours.
4. Citizens
for Safe Cycling is an Ottawa based non profit organization,founded in 1984 to
promote better, safer and more environmentally friendly cycling in the City of
Ottawa. The website can be found at www.safecycling.ca
and is worth checking out. It has a link to the cool interactive traffic map of
Ottawa, an article on the Top 10 problem areas in Ottawa and the Top 10 easy
fixes (of cycling routes) as well as a very useful site outlining the what
aspiring Councillors are planning to do for cycling, if they are elected in
November.
5. KNBC Gananoque Weekend Tour October 1-3 S2 (republished by
request)
Drive to Gananoque on Friday evening and stay in B&B’s
(information available from tour leader). On Saturday, cycle to the Howe Island
ferry, across Howe Island, another ferry, continue on to Old Fort Henry for
lunch and back on a different route (80 km) On Sunday cycle the 1000 Islands
Parkway to Mallorytown Landing for lunch and return by a different route
(distance to be determined based on participants’ wishes.) Dinner in Gananoque
on Saturday evening and drive home on Sunday after the ride. If interested in
this tour, please let me know and I will send you information on B&B’s.

6. Tips for braking:
To exert optimal pressure, brake with your hands at the ends of
the levers. For a quick stop, as you press the brakes firmly, slide your
buttocks to the very back of the saddle. This will keep the rear of the bike
down so that you don't flip over the handlebars.
